Network Design
The key to any great public transport operator is the route network.
Does it serve the ever changing needs of your customers? Are there opportunities to grow demand? Is it financially sustainable?
Suitability
We can review your existing passenger demand against your current timetables and network.
From there we can assess enhancements to create new links, improve frequencies and target your financial needs.
Reliability
Passengers regularly rank reliability as a key factor in journey satisfaction. Ensuring you have workable timetables and scheduling agreements is key to delivering a robust service.
We can review vehicle data and current schedules to maximise your potential.
Simplicity
The most successful services and networks are those that offer an easily sold proposition to potential customers.
Our network design capability combines an eye for simplicity with the need to ensure efficiency,
Efficiency
Costs can easily rise where you're running inefficient timetables or networks.
Whether you're operating commercial services or you're planning contracted or franchised networks the need to minimise cost, whilst maintaining the attractiveness of services, is vital.

Case Study #1
Interurban Express Coach
We have first hand experience in growing and developing the Fife to Edinburgh express coach network through enhancing frequencies, adding new routes and improving reliability.
Supported by significant marketing attention and ongoing review of pricing strategies these services delivered double digit (%) passenger growth year on year from 2017 through to 2019.
Post pandemic recovery focusing on increased leisure demand and reducing demand for commuter travel resulted in significant recovery and by 2024 growth on 2019 figures across all demographics.
Supported by interurban park & ride sites and good quality bus priority measures the core section of route operated every five minutes in peak, a coaching record?
Express coach or service bus we have experience of growing demand and improving services on a commercial basis
Case Study #2
Tendered Networks
Faced with budget constraints our experience of redesigning supported local bus networks in the Forth Valley to reduce costs to the public purse resulted in a seven figure saving at retendering whilst offering an improved network of services.
The vehicle and driver costs are always the most significant to be borne by any service so by reviewing demand for services on a journey by journey basis it was possible to identify vehicle efficiencies. While reducing the number of vehicles employed on contracted services the remaining resources were deployed on a simplified, more frequent network that then generated passenger growth.
From an operator's perspective we also have experience of working with local authority colleagues to deliver service reviews that meet the financial needs of the tendering authority whilst maintaining a comprehensive network provision based on social need and current demand.
